A new Marks and Spencer store could be on the way to Consett - but residents are wary of it being outside of the town centre.
This week, the popular chain named the County Durham town as one of 500 “target locations” across the country for new and refreshed food stores.
M&S said it is looking for prominent sites that have more than two acres in size and, most notably, are at edge-of-town or out-of-town locations.
While some residents believe the addition of the chain could help revitalise the area, others have raised concerns over its potential impact on the town centre.
