A 45-year-old man from Simcoe has been charged with two counts of first-degree murder in connection with a homicide investigation that began in October, Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) said.

Barbara Morgan, 71, was found dead in a home on Head Street South in Simcoe on the morning of Oct. 5, police said, adding that a post-mortem examination determined that the death was a homicide.

Morgan's son, Justin Morgan, also of Simcoe, was arrested on Oct. 10, and charged with second-degree murder, police said.

Also on Oct. 10, police said officers searched a home on Stanley Street in Simcoe, and that investigators were concerned for the well-being of 49-year-old Robert Sykes. Sykes was unaccounted for, and had been last seen on Head Street South on Oct. 4, they said.
