A small landslide seriously injured a hiker who was scrambling off-trail on Thanksgiving near Ainsworth State Park in the Columbia River Gorge , Multnomah County sheriff’s officials said Friday.
Rocks pinned the man, who suffered several broken bones, sheriff’s officials said in a statement.
He fell down a 15-foot embankment when unstable ground gave way as he tried to cross a creek about a mile off trail, the statement said.
Sheriff’s officials didn’t release the man’s name but said he was in his mid-30s and called 911 himself about 3:50 p.m.
Sheriff’s deputies and other rescuers reached the hiker about 5:25 p.m. and used a litter to carry him to a waiting ambulance, the statement said.
