Newfoundland and Labrador Health Services (NLHS) says the number of tuberculosis cases in northern Labrador remains low and work is being done to make sure it stays that way.

Dr. Ellen Snyder, a medical officer of health with NLHS, said a small number of connected cases have been found in some Nunatsiavut communities. She declined to get into specifics for privacy reasons, but said transmission had occurred over several months.

NLHS and the Nunatsiavut government declared a tuberculosis outbreak across parts of northern Labrador on Thursday — largely driven by increased transmission and the number of potential contacts, Snyder said.
