JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Drivers are going to face sitting at red lights and stop signs for longer than normal when they try to get to the St. Johns Town Centerfor Black Friday shopping.

Last year’s major traffic delays inspired a handful of shoppers to come extra early to avoid another gridlock that trapped people in the parking lot for hours.

Now, officers with the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office are controlling the lights themselves at the traffic box to accommodate the crowds on Town Center Parkway. Other officers are signaling cars themselves in the roundabouts.

While many store doors at the St. Johns Town Center opened early at 6 A.M., dozens of Black Friday shoppers, including John McGahey, were standing in line much earlier.
