A new north-end hotel will add 82 rooms to the city’s accommodations stock in 2027.

Dignitaries took part in a groundbreaking ceremony Friday for the new Home2 Suites by Hilton, now under construction next to the Hampton Inn Brockville on Crocker Crescent.

It was more of a photo opportunity than a groundbreaking, with Friday’s blustery weather limiting the outdoor ceremony, but the new project had Brockville Mayor Matt Wren in a sunny mood nonetheless.

“There’s been a lot of commercial construction in the city the last couple of years,” he said, adding the new hotel will have spinoff benefits.

“It helps the restaurants; it helps the businesses in the area,” said the mayor. “Great benefits all around.”
