A presentation on affordable housing in Thorold and creation of an ad hoc affordable housing working group drew support from councillors at a recent meeting.

Thorold resident Brandon McKenney-Somerville approached council for a letter of support denouncing Ontario’s legislation Bill 60, that would strip tenant rights consolidating power in the hands of landlords.

The bill was passed by the legislature on Monday.

McKenney-Somerville said changes to the rules contained in the legislation “heavily skew the board in favour of landlords, who often make fake or illegal claims.”

During his presentation, McKenney-Somerville urged Thorold councillors to act on residents’ behalf, as many are struggling to find affordable housing due to rising costs.
