DETROIT – Marcello Vitti went into Friday’s Division 4 state finals game knowing it might be the final time he ever takes a handoff as a running back.
The senior running back/defensive back and University of Iowa commit wanted to make his final game a memorable one, and he was given the ultimate chance to end his rushing career in perfect fashion.
Holding onto a 23-22 lead against Hudsonville Unity Christian (12-2) with 1:42 remaining in the game, Dearborn Divine Child (13-1) looked to its star running back to pick up the final first down and complete its championship journey.
