FARGO — The weekend following Thanksgiving is a busy one for many in the Fargo-Moorhead area — whether gathering with friends and family, braving the bitter cold for early morning Black Friday deals, or diving into holiday decor and gift shopping. For local retailers, it's also an important moment to celebrate Small Business Saturday.
Small Business Saturday is an annual event held the weekend after Thanksgiving. The nationwide initiative encourages communities to shop locally and support small businesses during one of the busiest shopping seasons.
The event was founded by American Express in 2010 and officially cosponsored by the U.S. Small Business Administration the following year. Since then, it has become a staple of the post-Thanksgiving weekend in the Fargo-Moorhead area.
