INDIANAPOLIS – No one would have been surprised to learn that Lucas Nguyen would play a pivotal role in the Class 4A state title game against on Saturday.

The Bishop Dwenger senior kicker came into the championship game with 17 field goals on 22 attempts – including a long of 54, the longest ever hit by an SAC player. He'd made four kicks of 50 yards or longer, all of them coming in key games: The 9-6 victory over Carroll, a 21-18 loss to Northrop, the sectional opener at Leo and the regional victory over Lebanon.

Earlier in the week, Nguyen had even posted a video of his 57-yard make during Bishop Dwenger's practice on the Lucas Oil Stadium field on Wednesday.
