BOSTON — After the Bruins missed a chance to win in regulation, Jeremy Swayman made sure they still came away with a victory.
Swayman made four saves in overtime as Boston weathered an overtime penalty kill and then made three stops in the shootout, including a pair of terrific ones.
Casey Mittelstadt scored the lone shootout goal with a nifty backhand move as the Bruins prevailed 3-2 on Saturday at TD Garden.
These two teams will play again on Tuesday in Detroit.
The first period didn’t feature a goal, but there was notable action regardless. Each goalie stopped a breakaway Swayman thwarted Nate Danielson early and Cam Talbot turned back Morgan Geekie.
