Freshman Václav Nestrašil had a three-point night, but four goals in the second period helped Army West Point skate past No. 18/19 Massachusetts hockey, 5-4 on Saturday afternoon. The setback leaves the Minutemen at 8-8-0 on the year, while the Black Knights improve to 4-8-3.
“The last 40 minutes, I thought we played great,” said UMass head coach Greg Carvel. “We did a lot of good things. Gave up some scoring chances in the first and, you know, Michael Hrabal coming back, we needed to let him ease himself back in the game. He had to make too many difficult saves, which, which he didn’t make. But last 40 minutes, I thought we played pretty good hockey.”
UMass opened the scoring with freshman Jack Galanek winning an offensive zone faceoff back to Nestrašil following a Black Knights’ icing
