HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- The Harris County Sheriff's Office is investigating after a man was reportedly shot to death by the father of his ex-girlfriend on Saturday morning, investigators said.

It happened around 11 AM near Pear Tree Lane and Kenchester Drive. HCSO said the 50-year-old man was confirmed dead after being shot by the 71-year-old.

"Both individuals live at home. Apparently, the (deceased) is the ex-boyfriend of the shooter's daughter. She apparently moved out several years ago but stayed here," Sgt. Jason Brown said.

Neighbors who knew the family spoke to ABC13 and described the situation as "sad."

"It's very sad. We all know each other or kind of know each other. We've known that family, who lived in that house for at least 20 years," Linda Astala said.
