Rachel Reeves has denied lying to voters about the state of the public finances ahead of the Budget. The Chancellor had set out a gloomy economic picture at the beginning of November amid fears of a £20bn plus black hole . ‌

Opposition politicians have claimed this was “misleading” as the Office for Budget Responsibility watchdog had already provided her with a forecast showing the situation was not as bad as feared. In media interviews on Sunday morning, the Chancellor said she “of course” did not lie to the public . ‌
