I’ve always liked doing things that push me out of my comfort zone. I’m in my fourth year studying mechanical engineering at University of Strathclyde , so my weekdays are usually spent in the library or in labs. But my weekends are totally different - being part of 6th Battalion, The Royal Regiment of Scotland (6 SCOTS), serving as a reserve infanteer.
I first got involved with the Army through the University Officers’ Training Corps. I didn’t have any close connections to the military - I just fancied giving it a go and seeing what it would be like. I ended up falling in love with it: the mix of structure, teamwork and getting outdoors appealed to me, and it gave me an experience different to anything I’d known before.
