Two Department for Work and Pensions benefits can give State Pension claimants an extra £10,000 a year. Retirees are told to make sure they are getting the most from the DWP - with Attendance Allowance and Pension Credit both underclaimed.

Attendance Allowance is not means-tested and is worth either £3,842 or £5,740 during the current financial year. Meanwhile, Pension Credit could provide an extra £4,300 a year.

The DWP estimates that more than 700,000 people are eligible for Pension Credit but are not claiming it. Similarly, over a million pensioners are believed to be eligible for Attendance Allowance.
