Former West Ham captain and manager Billy Bonds who has died at the age of 79

Billy Bonds, the former West Ham captain and manager, has passed away at the age of 79, as confirmed by the Premier League club.

Bonds holds the record for the most appearances for the Hammers, having played 799 matches during his 21-year career, which included lifting the FA Cup twice and winning the old Second Division.

After transitioning into coaching, initially with the youth team, Bonds took on the managerial role in February 1990, leading the team to promotion from Division Two and, following a relegation in 1992, he guided the Upton Park side back into the top flight at the dawn of the Premier League era.
