When hard times come for Oregonians, Oregonians band together. The past year has shown how true that is as new federal policies have caused hard times for many.

With unprecedented immigration raids, threats of federal military deployments in Portland and the suspension of food assistance during the government shutdown, Oregonians have responded to each challenge with solidarity and generosity. They’ve supported immigrant families , walked students to school and peacefully protested in inflatable costumes. Cafes and restaurants have offered free food to those in need while residents from near and far donated to help cover the costs. Even as the safety net has been slashed, the community has sought to stitch it back together.
