A fatal crash on the M4 has resulted in the death of a 32-year-old man and left another man seriously injured. The incident occurred near Leigh Delamere Services at approximately 2am today. Wiltshire Police responded to reports of a black Mercedes that had veered off the eastbound carriageway. The motorway was subsequently closed between Junction 18 (Bath) and Junction 17 (Chippenham) to facilitate the investigation and recovery efforts. A police spokesperson stated, "We are sad to report that a 32-year-old man has died following a road traffic collision involving a single vehicle on the M4, in the early hours of this morning. The man’s next of kin have been informed and they are receiving support from specially trained officers. Our thoughts are with them." The second occupant of the vehicle is currently receiving hospital treatment for serious injuries. National Highways has indicated that there is "no definite timeframe" for the reopening of the eastbound carriageway. In the meantime, trapped traffic has been released, and a diversion is in place via the A420. The investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash is ongoing.
