Four people are dead, and another 10 are wounded after a shooting during a family gathering at a banquet hall in Stockton, Calif., on Saturday.

According to the San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Office, the shooting happened 6 p.m. Saturday evening inside a strip mall in the city.

A Facebook post from Stockton Vice-Mayor Jason Lee said the shooting happened at a children’s birthday party, per ABC7.

Heather Brent, a spokesperson for the Sheriff’s Office, said the victims included children and adults, with early indications that “suggest this may have been a targeted incident.”

“This is a very active and ongoing investigation, and information remains limited,” said Brent during a press conference, as reported by CNN .
