SYRACUSE – Eldred’s high-powered offense finally met its match in a 48-12 defeat to Morrisville-Eaton in the eight-man state football championship game on Sunday and snowy Cicero-North High School.

The loss ended a historic run by Eldred (10-3), which averaged 40.6 points per game this season. Morrisville-Eaton led 16-6 at halftime but blew the game open in the second half. Quarterback Koen McGill passed for a touchdown and ran for another for Eldred.

The Yellowjackets entered the state championship on a six-game winning streak. Eldred lost to rival Sullivan West on Nov. 14 but followed with an impressive run. The Yellow Jackets avenged the Sullivan West loss with a 76-60 win over the Bulldogs in the Section 9 championship two weeks ago.
