Thousands of Metro Detroiters came home to more snow than when they left for the Thanksgiving holiday when they returned this weekend.

The Sunday after Thanksgiving, typically the heaviest travel day of the year, coincided with the first major snowstorm in the region for the season, which dumped 5-7 inches of snow Saturday into Sunday morning in Wayne, Oakland and Macomb counties.

The snow upended some travel plans, causing 66 cancellations and 385 delays on Saturday, with 30 more cancellations and 346 delays Sunday, according to the flight-tracking website Flight Aware.

"We are operating as we normally would during a snow event," said Matt Marowski, director of media and communications for the Wayne County Airport Authority.
