A Nashua couple who sued the city last year for denying their request to fly right-wing flags outside City Hall are scheduled to have their appeal heard in a Massachusetts courtroom Tuesday.
Beth and Stephen Scaer filed a lawsuit against the city in U.S. District Court in Concord in September 2024, claiming their free speech rights were violated after they applied to fly three different flags on flagpoles at City Hall Plaza in Nashua.
The flags in question are a Save Women’s Sports flag, associated with barring transgender girls and women from playing women’s sports; the “Appeal to Heaven” Pine Tree Flag, which has been tied to many causes historically but in recent years has been associated with far-right politics and Christian Nationalism; and a Detrans Awareness flag, which highlights
