Electric car and plug-in hybrid owners are set to face fresh charges following rules unveiled by Chancellor Rachel Reeves. The sweeping overhaul will affect those charging vehicles on driveways or at public charging stations.
A new pay-per-mile scheme will be introduced, marking the latest levy to strike electric motorists after a substantial VED increase earlier this year. EV drivers will pay 3p per mile under the proposals, whilst hybrid owners face a 1.5p rate.
Motorists are anticipated to report their yearly mileage under the fresh system, reports Birmingham Live . The typical British driver covers approximately 8,500 miles annually, equating to £255 at the 3p tariff.
