Awesome Newburyport hands out first microgrant

NEWBURYPORT — Launching last month with a goal of making the city a little more “awesome,” the local chapter of the Awesome Foundation gave out its first $1,000 award on its inaugural pitch night.

Created in 2009 in Boston, the Awesome Foundation is a global community of 69 chapters across 10 countries supporting projects through microgrants of $1,000 per project, as long as the project benefits the community.
