New York City is officially kicking off the most wonderful time of year.
The Rockefeller Center Christmas tree, a worldwide symbol of the holidays, will be lit for the first time this season on Wednesday, Dec. 3, with live performances at Rockefeller Plaza.
The 11-ton, 75-foot Norway spruce tree traveled all the way from East Greenbush, a suburb of Albany, New York, to its new home in front of 30 Rockefeller Plaza on Nov. 8. Homeowner Judy Russ donated the spruce, which her husband’s great-grandparents planted in the 1920s.
The tree is displayed between West 49th and 50th streets and Fifth and Sixth avenues.
It will be lit with more than 50,000 multi-colored LED lights on approximately 5 miles of wire. It will be topped with a star, designed by architect Daniel Libeskind in 2018. The
