Two people are in custody after a shooting was reported in DeLand on Monday morning.

The DeLand Police Department said officers responded to reports of a home invasion near the 100 block of Voorhis Street.

Police said the suspect arrived at the back door of the home and began to knock. A woman inside the house opened the door, and that is when the suspect forced his way inside.

A man inside the house, identified as the woman’s husband, gave the intruder multiple commands to drop the weapon he was carrying.

The intruder refused, and that is when the husband fired a single round, which struck the suspect in the chest.

The suspect fled the house and was later found in a wooded area a couple of blocks away.

He was airlifted to a hospital and is expected to survive.
