LINCOLN, Neb. (WOWT) - Nebraska State Auditor Mike Foley says his office found several instances of caregivers taking advantage of a Medicaid program and improperly billing the state.
The Personal Assistance Program supports people who need help with hygiene, mobility and housekeeping.
Foley says some caregivers are milking the program with inflated and duplicate billing, with oversight failures by the Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) feeding the problem.
In one instance, a caregiver was authorized to provide 66 hours of service per week despite also working full time as a school bus driver.
Foley’s audit team found that the caregiver billed the state for client work while she was driving a school bus.
