HENDERSON, Neb. (KOLN) - On Wednesday mornings in Henderson, the whir of machinery drowns out classic tunes playing on tapes, while Ian Huebert preps the printing press.
The Service Press is one of the few news outlets in Nebraska that prints everything in-house, and it’s how Huebert connects with his hometown of about 1,000 people.
“Wednesdays are my favorite day because that’s always when we print the newspaper,” said Ian Huebert, owner of the Service Press. “I get to run a printing press all day and have ink on my fingers and just deal with tangible objects for a little bit.”
In a year, he produces 52 editions of the eight-page Henderson News, using a press built in the 1980s. But Huebert displays printing equipment spanning from the mid-1800s to modern technology.
