James Madison coach Bob Chesney will leave the Dukes after this season to lead UCLA, according to multiple media reports Monday.

Chesney, in his second season in Harrisonburg, has guided JMU to an 11-1 mark this year and a spot in Friday’s Sun Belt Conference championship game against Troy.

ESPN’s Pete Thamel reported on X that Chesney is “set to sign a 5-year deal with UCLA that will emerge after James Madison’s Sun Belt championship game.” UCLA has agreed to allow Chesney to coach in the College Football Playoff if the Dukes are in the 12-team field, according to Thamel.
