FISHERS, Ind. — A 17-year-old Fishers High School student is facing a preliminary charge of possession of a firearm on school property after police say they found a gun in the student's vehicle.
Fishers police say they received an anonymous tip in the HSE Report it! app Monday, Dec. 1 that a student might have a gun in his vehicle.
"We do not believe the juvenile intended to use the weapon to cause harm at the school," Fishers police said in a social media post.
Police want to thank the anonymous tipster and school administrators who acted "promptly" on the tip.
Possession of a firearm on school property is a Level 6 felony under Indiana law. It carries a maximum penalty of 2.5 years in prison and up to $10,000 in fines. The minimum sentence is six months.
