The measures, passed earlier this year by the General Assembly, bring significant changes to public safety, traffic rules and school security across the state.
Iryna’s Law tightens rules for violent offenders and updates execution procedures
One of the most consequential laws taking effect today is Iryna’s Law , named after Iryna Zarutska, who was killed on Charlotte’s light rail in August. The man accused in her death had a lengthy criminal record and had been released multiple times without paying bail.
