Authorities revealed the cause of death for a 21-year-old man whose body was found at Albany International Airport over Thanksgiving weekend.
Dajohn Woodberry Jr., who was homeless and had most recently been staying in the Lake Placid area, was discovered by an employee near the airport’s north parking garage around 10:30 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 30, according to the Albany County Sheriff’s Office.
Woodberry died from hypothermia, an autopsy conducted Monday, Dec. 1, revealed.
Deputies arrived to find Woodberry motionless and already deceased, according to sheriff’s officials. Colonie EMS responded and confirmed his death at the scene.
Overnight temperatures in the area hovered around 30 degrees.
Sheriff Craig Apple said it remains unclear how Woodberry reached the airport or where he had been before he died.
Woodberry’s death prompted emotional reactions from those who knew him. In a Facebook post, friend Maurice Knight wrote that Woodberry was a “great young man” he had looked out for at the airport.
“I wish I could have done more for him,” Knight wrote. “We never know what someone [is] going through… I’m happy I took the time out and got to know him. S.I.P. Dajohn Woodberry.”
Additional details about Woodberry’s life were not immediately available. Loved ones are invited to share a statement, funeral details, and/or photos by emailing mmashburn@dailyvoice.com.
