OROVILLE — Headed to the Butte County Hall of Records with his mom Wednesday, 9-year-old Judd Hallen was under the impression they were simply picking up passport applications.
In reality, Judd, who is from Oroville, was about to find out he won the Butte County “I Voted” sticker contest, and his mom wanted it to be a surprise.
“We got to the place, and the guy (Butte County Clerk-Recorder Keaton Denlay), he came up and he said, ‘You must be Judd,’ and I didn’t know why he said my name,” Judd recounted. “Then we got to his office, and he said, ‘Do you know why you’re here?’ And I said, ‘No,’ and he told me that I won the competition, and I was really excited.”
The Butte County Clerk-Recorder’s office announced Judd’s win Monday, noting it reviewed 164 artwork submissions from kindergart
