The UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) is urging the public to consider wearing face masks and take other precautions as several winter viruses, including a mutated strain of influenza, are making their rounds across the nation. This year's flu season has started more than a month early due to this mutation, causing concern among health officials. ‌

Prof Nicola Lewis, the director of the World Influenza Centre at the Francis Crick Institute, said last month: "We haven't seen a virus like this for a while, these dynamics are unusual. It does concern me, absolutely. I'm not panicking, but I am worried." ‌
