It’s time to catch the ugliest fish in the west. Over $30,000 dollars in cash and prizes are up for grabs at the upcoming Burbot Bash on Flaming Gorge Reservoir, an event focused on diminishing the invasive fish known for its ugly face and appetite for the native kokanee salmon and trout populations. This year’s Burbot Bash is scheduled for January 23rd through the 25th. Registration just opened this week and can be linked to at www.burbotbash.com . This annual ice fishing tournament helps to control the burbot population, a cod-like fish that rapidly reproduces and preys on other sportfish species in the reservoir. Despite being unwanted, burbot are delicious and typically become more active as the temperatures drop, making for a great tournament. Early registration is encouraged.
