Trump has threatened to prosecute six Democratic lawmakers for claiming that soldiers should refuse to obey unlawful orders. The six lawmakers are absolutely in the right, for reasons that any American familiar with World War II should recognize.

On March 16, 1968, a group of American soldiers operating in Quang Ngai province in South Vietnam murdered 347 civilians – men, women and children – in My Lai 4 hamlet, and another 157 in a nearby village. Dozens of women, as well as girls as young as 12, were raped and murdered by as many as 33 soldiers from C Company, 1 st Battalion, 3 rd Infantry Regimens, 11 th Brigade of the Americal Division. The dead included 17 pregnant women and 53 infants . It was the largest massacre of civilians by U.S. forces in the 20 th century.
