GAINESVILLE, Fla. (WCJB) - The Salvation Army in Gainesville is experiencing a growing gap between community need and available resources as Giving Tuesday highlights charitable giving across North Central Florida.
The organization operates a food pantry and assists families in need with utility bills. Officials accept donations of food, furniture, and toys to support their mission.
However, the nonprofit is facing challenges as donation levels do not match the increased demand for services.
“We’re actually seeing fewer donations, but our need has increased by 25%. The donations have not kept pace, unfortunately,” said Ernest Hull, commanding officer of the Salvation Army.
