COLUMBIA, S.C. — The South Carolina State Election Commission (SEC) Tuesday unanimously voted to appoint Jenny Wooten as its next Executive Director.
The Executive Director serves as South Carolina’s chief election official and oversees the SEC’s daily operations. Wooten’s appointment now goes before the State Senate for approval.
She joined the SEC in 2022 as a policy and outreach coordinator. Wooten has been serving as the agency’s Interim Director and Chief of Staff since September of this year, where she led governmental affairs, policy development, and major cross-divisional initiatives.
She took over for Howard Knapp, who was fired in September. He was later arrested by SLED on charges of of misconduct in office and wiretapping. Former deputy director Paige Solanich was also ch
