KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — A Knoxville Police Department officer arrested this week in Sevier County on an aggravated domestic assault charge has a history of disciplinary action, according to his personnel file.
Officer Adam Barnett was taken into custody on Monday while off duty after an alleged assault involving a family member. A KPD spokesperson said Barnett’s police powers have been suspended, and he has been placed on administrative reassignment.
In an interview on Tuesday, Chief Paul Noel said Barnett was still in jail, but when he returns, he'll get paid, but he won't have police powers or patrol the streets.
"Its behavior we do not tolerate," Noel said. "As soon as we learned of this arrest in Sevier County, we notified the public, we notified you all."
