DES MOINES, Iowa (Gray Media Iowa Capitol Bureau) - Iowa has reached a settlement with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security that will grant the state access to a federal database to confirm whether registered voters are U.S. citizens and legally allowed to vote.
Attorney General Brenna Bird said the agreement with the Trump administration should make the state’s elections more secure. County auditors said they agree with the new measures.
Iowa joined several other Republican-led states in suing the Biden administration over access to citizenship data. The Trump administration has now settled the lawsuit.
