NEW ORLEANS — Mayor-elect Helena Moreno has selected her City Council colleague and current Budget Chair, Joe Giarrusso, to serve as New Orleans’ next Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) — one of the most important positions in city government.

“Obviously you all saw what we had to accomplish during this budget process,” Moreno said. “And he got the job done.”

As CAO, Giarrusso will oversee the city’s day-to-day operations, manage city services, and supervise how New Orleans spends its money. He already works closely with the CAO’s office through his role as the council’s budget chair.

“I think the perspective the mayor-elect is looking for is someone who's been an insider and knows what’s going on,” Giarrusso said.
