FORT VALLEY, Ga. — Shakeena Reeves secured the Fort Valley mayoral election on Tuesday, winning the run-off race against Jeffery Lundy with 60% of the vote.

Reeves, the challenger, led the initial November election with over 44% of the vote, just over 180 votes more than the incumbent, Lundy. Since she didn't secure over 50% of the vote, Reeves and Lundy had another opportunity to face off at the ballot box.

Reeves is a Fort Valley State University alumna and said she is an economist who has worked with the US Department of Agriculture and is an active member of local government through Fort Valley’s Planning and Zoning Board.

In an interview during the campaign, Reeves said she would emphasize economic stability if elected.
