HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - For the first time since wildfires devastated the area in August 2023, limited commercial boat operations will resume at Lahaina Small Boat Harbor .
The Hawaii Department of Land and Natural Resources says four companies are expected to resume commercial operations from the harbor on Dec. 15, and several more plan to reopen in early 2026.
“We recognize that this is one of the very first steps being taken toward reopening Lahaina, so we have carefully developed a plan that remains respectful to those affected by the disaster,” said DLNR Division of Boating and Ocean Recreation administrator Meghan Statts.
The state says there is still no electricity at the harbor, so commercial ocean operations are only being allowed between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m.
