CLAXTON, Ga. - Over a century ago, a traditional holiday dessert put Claxton on the map.

The festive treat is none-other-than the Claxton “world famous” fruitcake.

“Claxton is the fruitcake capital of the world. It’s on the water tower, and we’re very proud of that,” said Paula Claxton, food safety and social media manager.

Before Savino Tos arrived, there were no bakeries in Claxton.

So, the pastry-maker from Italy built his business in the heart of the city, selling everything from fresh bread and homemade ice cream to premium cake filled with fruits and nuts.

One day in 1927, a young Albert Parker stepped into Claxton Bakery and asked for a job. He worked hard and built a relationship with Tos who later sold him the business.
