WATERLOO, Iowa (KCRG) - Dave Boesen has defeated longtime incumbent Quentin Hart to be elected Waterloo’s new mayor in a runoff vote.
Boesen has served on Waterloo’s city council for six years, and before that he was a Waterloo firefighter for 29 years.
Boesen trailed incumbent Quentin Hart on election day by about nine percentage points, but because neither candidate received more than 50% of the vote, it went to a runoff Tuesday night.
Hart served five terms as mayor and was the first Black mayor for the city of Waterloo. He spent eight years as a council member before that.

In Waterloo City Council Ward 1, Steve Schmitt received 61% of the vote and John Chiles received 38% of the vote.
