ANN ARBOR, MI — A 14-story apartment high-rise overlooking the University of Michigan marching band practice field is one step closer to getting city approval.

The city’s Planning Commission voted 8-0 Tuesday night, Dec. 2, to recommend City Council approve rezoning nine properties across from Elbel Field on Madison Street, Fourth Avenue and Fifth Avenue for the development known as The Dean.

Commissioners also OK’d a conceptual area plan for the project showing 220 apartments, an increase from 182 in an earlier iteration before additional property along Fourth Avenue was incorporated into the footprint.

A formal site plan will go to the commission for approval after the decision on the rezoning, City Planner Alexis DiLeo said.
