NEDERLAND, Texas — A 3-year-old child was found safe Tuesday evening after a man allegedly stole an SUV with the child inside from a Chevron gas station in Nederland, then abandoned the boy on a Beaumont roadside in near-freezing weather, according to a probable cause affidavit and information previously released by police.
Nederland Police received the call around 6:30 p.m. Tuesday after a Dodge SUV was stolen from the Chevron at Nederland Avenue and Highway 69, Chief Rod Carroll said. The affidavit identifies the suspect as Steve Williams, 44, of Port Arthur, saying he took the vehicle from 103 S. 69 with the child still inside.
