ELKHART, Ind. (WNDU) - For 54 years, students at Mary Daly Elementary and West Side Middle School in Elkhart have crossed a bridge over Indiana State Road 19 to get to school.

But now, the bridge has deteriorated beyond repair and will be demolished.

Elkhart officials met with concerned residents Tuesday night at Mary Daly to discuss the bridge’s future.

16 News Now attended the meeting.

Approximately 300 students cross the bridge over Indiana State Road 19 every day. But with the city of Elkhart scheduled to demolish the bridge at the end of the school year, parents worry about how their kids will safely walk to school in the future.
