LAREDO, Tex. (KGNS) - Webb County Judge Tano Tijerina is officially running for Congress.

He made the announcement on Dec. 2. Tijerina will be seeking the Republican nomination in the March primary. The Republican primary winner will face the Democratic primary winner in the November general election.

He said in a statement that the election is not about politics but about people and that his roots are in South Texas. He said he will never put personal gain or Washington politics above the people who raised him.

Following the announcement, the judge was not available to the media for one-on-one interviews.
